The second largest of the Channel Islands, Guernsey is situated just a few miles
from the French coasts of Normandy and Brittany in the bay of St Malo. Independent and self
governing for more than 700 years, the island has a culture and character which are quite
unique. The language is English and traffic drives on the left. With over 2000 hours of
sunshine each year, the island enjoys a mild climate with long hours of daylight in which to
enjoy the peace and tranquillity
of the quiet,
tree-lined lanes, the cliff paths or the many beautiful beaches which surround the island.
Famous for both its wild flowers and its cultivated flowers, Guernsey is a gardeners'
paradise.
A little more bustle can be found in the beautiful little town of St Peter Port where the warm and friendly service to be found in the many fine shops is a welcome change from that normally experienced in most of the larger cities on the mainland. (and there is no VAT!).
Excellent restaurants abound and prices compare very favourably with other parts of the world. Try some of the local dishes and don't miss out on the seafood.
